People Worldwide Signed a Petition to Stop Arms Selling to Saudi Arabia and the UAE: Amnesty International

Yamanyoon

Amnesty International said more than a quarter of a million people around the world had signed a petition calling on their governments to stop selling arms to Saudi Arabia and the UAE because of the war in Yemen.

Last week, Amnesty International called on France and other Western countries to stop selling arms to Saudi Arabia and the UAE. In February, the organization accused the UAE of transferring arms from Western and other countries to “irresponsible factions accused of war crimes” in Yemen.

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are leading a military coalition, including local forces composed of various Yemeni factions, claiming its presence to restore power to the ex-president Hadi and its former government after they were ousted from Yemen by the Yemeni revolution.

International organizations accuse the coalition of committing crimes against civilians. The UAE faces international isolation on arms purchases, after increasing decisions and discussions about the UAE poor regional role in foreign wars. Perhaps the most prominent reason for the arming ban against the UAE was the involvement in the Yemen war, which has caused the UAE heavy losses in men, money, weapons and defamation.
