U.S. Congress Letter About Humanitarian Situation in Hodeida

March 12 / Yamanyoon

Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf appreciated the stance taken by some members of the United States Congress in their letter to the U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, regarding the worsening humanitarian situation in Yemen’s port city of Hodeida.

In a statement, Sharaf said the facts stated in the letter written by the U.S. Congress’ members make it clear that the humanitarian situations in Hodeida city are deteriorating rapidly as the Saudi-led coalition and its all-out siege are blocking humanitarian organizations from entering the city to provide aid.

Sharaf confirmed that the aggression has ordered the humanitarian organizations to divert their aid-loaded ships from Hodeida to Aden and that makes the humanitarian missions very difficult logistically because of the unstable, insecure situations in Aden, where trucks were forced to pass through at least one hundred checkpoints from Aden to the north of Yemen.

Also, Sharaf said that the facts included a call from the Congress which urges the warring parties to go back to the negotiating table, stressing that the eventual peaceful solution in Yemen would only be through a diplomatic, political settlement.
