United Nations: The “Security Belt” in Aden Is Behind Racial and Regionally Motivated Displacement

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said on Tuesday that units of the so-called “the security belt” , which is fully supported and trained by the UAE, are behind the regional campaign motivated by regionalism, which resulted in the deportation of hundreds of Yemenis under the pretext of revenge for Abu al-Yamamah, a southern commander backed by the UAE, who was killed during a parade by a missile attack by the Yemeni forces against the Saudi-UAE aggression.

A spokeswoman for the office, Rafina Shamdasani, said in a statement that units belonging to forces known as the “security belt” supported by the United Arab Emirates were behind the abuses.

“We have received information from multiple sources about arbitrary arrests and detention, forced displacement, physical assaults and harassment,” spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani said in a statement.

The statement added that according to information received, security forces “searched hotels and restaurants, stopped people asking them for their identities” and arrested people who were from the north of Yemen.

The UN Office for Human Rights stressed that “arrests and forced displacement are a violation of international law”.It is noteworthy that more than 2400 citizens have been forced and subjected to humiliating expulsion, and more than 1700 crimes of burning and destruction of shops, while others were closed, according to statistics of the Southern Media Center, which also stated that the cases of deportation and beatings of citizens, including women and children during the displacement reached 450 cases .
